Choosing a pedestal for one object
One object on a pedestal looks deliberate. A few rules on height, width and light.
Height
Hip height for things you look down into, chest height for anything with a face or a profile.
Leave a hand’s width of pedestal around the base so nothing looks about to fall.
Light
One light from the side does more than three from above. Every photograph on this site was lit by a single window.
